Stress management is one of the most critical life skills you can have. This is true no matter what your age.
Control vs. Influence
Do you know the difference between control and influence? Read on for the critical distinctions and how to use them in your own life.
Here is a simple life principle that just occurred to me as I was writing this article:
Some of the most miserable and unsuccessful people I know are the ones that try to control everyone and ever situation around them. At the same time, some of the happiest people I know are the ones that assert great influence with the people and situations in their life.
3 Kinds of Situations
At the bottom line, there are three kinds of situations we face everyday in our lives:
1. Situations we can control.
2. Situations we can influence.
3. Situations in which can do neither.
It's been my experience that we can influence almost any situation, even if the only variable we can influence is ourselves and/or our own attitude.
It's also been my experience that one of the major sources of stress is trying to control a situation we can only influence. If you really want to get stressed out, stubbornly keep trying to control a situation in which you have no control or even influence.
Seems to me that it would be a worthy goal to strive to be a person of influence: first with yourself and in your own life, and then in those situations in which you can assert influence.
